Pulmonary Rehabilitation

Pulmonary Rehabilitation is a support and educational program for patients of all ages.  The program addresses:

  • General and specific problems of chronic obstructive lung disease such as:
    • Asthma
    • Chronic bronchitis
    • Emphysema
  • Restrictive diseases such as:
    • Fibrosis
    • Black lung

The program’s goal is to assist the individual in achieving their fullest physical, emotional, and social potential possible within the limitations imposed by chronic lung disease.  The patient and clinician work closely together to establish realistic short and long- term rehabilitation goals. Our staff consists of respiratory therapy professionals and the referring physician is the director of the patient’s individual plan of care.

Program

The program involves five classroom sessions related to the patient’s particular disease, including:

  • Assessment of realistic limitations
  • Pulmonary anatomy and physiology
  • Disease processes
  • Nutrition
  • Social and psychological issues

Education is carried out at the patient’s own pace.

What to Expect

Before the first appointment, any pertinent medical records are obtained from your referring physician.  Required testing that has not been done, such as PFT’s should be completed before the program starts.  Participation in the program is arranged by physician referral.

At the first appointment, an evaluation is done with the therapist and the patient.  It will provide information to better plan our services to the patient’s individual pulmonary needs.

Costs

Most health insurance plans, including Medicare and Medicaid, provide reimbursement for pulmonary rehabilitation.  Please check with your provider.  In some cases we can offer HCAP.  The cost for the pulmonary rehabilitation course is available upon request.

Hours

Appointments are available year round three days per week (Monday-Wednesday-Friday)
