What’s It All About?

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon (us); he has anointed (us) to preach good tidings; he has sent us to heal the brokenhearted…” Isaiah 61:1

What’s it all about? It’s about our patients!

Like Doug Cline, the deputy mayor of Centerville, who recently had a near-death experience at Southview/Grandview medical centers…that’s what it is all about!

It’s about our patients, because we listen! Doug wasn’t the only one impacted. His wife, his children and his family members all felt the reverberations and likely passed those on to countless others. That’s what this Kettering Health Network is all about – ‘improving the quality of life for the people in the communities we serve.’

How did we come up with that mission statement? Where did it originate? Whenever I ask that question, very few people respond. But it’s very simple. We actually took it straight from the Old Testament, Isaiah 61:1 – The Spirit of the Lord has anointed us, He has sent us to heal the brokenhearted.

Why do we do what we do here at Kettering? And what motivates us to reach for the stars in terms of excellence – and then some? Because as we step forward into each new year we have a function. We have a calling. We have an anointing. The Bible says clearly, “God has anointed us!” He has anointed us to serve in many ways:
  • Heal the brokenhearted;
  • Anoint our leadership;
  • Offer ‘Blessing of the Hands’ for nurses and other direct caregivers;
  • We were there for a world-famous performer recently when she accompanied a member of her band to one of our hospital ERs, precisely at the time the new Schuster Heart Hospital was being dedicated; Her name is Diana Ross.
  • We are anointed to bring ‘salvation’ which in the original Hebrew and Greek really means ‘healing.’ The word is interchangeable. That’s what we’re here to do. Bring the healing grace of God to people in tangible ways.
I encourage you to pursue this kind of excellence in our journey together here at Kettering Health Network. We must remain committed to be a healing force to every patient, every time, every day!

God’s blessings to you and your family
